Prophetic Evidence that the Bible is God’s Word

compiled by Daryl E. Witmer

It’s about as simple as 1-2-3.

1) Only a supernatural God would be capable of knowing and revealing the future with 100% accuracy, time after time, in hundreds and hundreds of instances.

2) That’s exactly what the Bible does. Therefore,

3) The Bible is God’s Word.

Here are just eight actual examples:

Old Testament Prophecy 4004 B.C.
Genesis 3:15 “And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel.”

New Testament Fulfillment 4 B.C.
Galatians 4:4 “But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law.” and 1 John 3:8b: “The Son of God appeared for this purpose, that He  might destroy the works of the devil.”

Old Testament Prophecy 4004 B.C.
Genesis 22:18 “And in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”

New Testament Fulfillment 30 A.D.
John 11:51-52 “Now this he did not say on his own initiative; but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the nation, and not for the nation only, but that He might also gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad.”

Old Testament Prophecy 1000 B.C.
Psalm 69:21 “They also gave me gall for my food, And for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.”

New Testament Fulfillment 30 A.D.
Matthew 27:34 “they gave Him wine to drink mingled with gall; and after tasting it, He was unwilling to drink.”

Old Testament Prophecy 700 B.C.
Isaiah 53:4-6 “Surely our griefs He Himself bore, And our sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted. But He was pierced through for our transgress-ions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed. All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the Lord has caused
the iniquity of us all to fall on Him.”

New Testament Fulfillment 29-30 A.D.
Matthew 20:28 “just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and
to give His life a ransom for many.”

Old Testament Prophecy 700 B.C. Isaiah 9:1-2 “But there will be no more gloom for her who was in anguish; in earlier times He treated the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali with contempt, but later on He shall make it glorious, by the way of the sea, on the other side of Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles. The people who walk in darkness Will see a great light; Those who live in a dark land, The light will shine on them.”

New Testament Fulfillment 30 A.D.
Matthew 4:12, 16, 23 “Now when He heard that John had been taken into custody, He withdrew into Galilee; The people who were sitting in darkness saw a great light, And to those who were sitting in the land and shadow of death, Upon them a light dawned. And Jesus was going about in all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness  among the people.”

Old Testament Prophecy 515 B.C.
Zechariah 11:12-13 “And I said to them, ‘If it is good in your sight, give me my wages; but if not, never mind!’ So they weighed out thirty shekels of silver as my wages. Then the Lord said to me, ‘Throw it to the potter, that magnificent price at which I was valued by them.’ So I took the thirty shekels of silver and threw them to the potter in the house of the Lord.”

New Testament Fulfillment 30 A.D.
Matthew 26:15 “and said, ‘What are you willing to give me to deliver Him up to you?’ And they weighed out to him thirty pieces of silver.” and Matthew 27:3, 7: “Then when Judas, who had betrayed Him, saw that He had been condemned, he felt remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, And they coun-seled together  and with the money bought the Potter’s Field as a burial place for strangers.”

Old Testament Prophecy
1000 B.C. Psalm 22:18 “They divide my garments among them, And for my clothing they cast lots.”

New Testament Fulfillment
30 A.D. Matt-hew 27:35: “And when they had crucified Him, they divided up His garments among themselves, casting lots;”

Old Testament Prophecy 1000 B.C. Psalm 110:1 “The Lord says to my Lord: ‘Sit at My right hand, Until I make Thine enemies a footstool for Thy feet.'”

New Testament Fulfillment 30 A.D.
Hebrews 1:3 “And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high;”

There are over 2,000 specific prophecies in the Bible which have already been fulfilled. This is particularly astounding when we recall that there are no such prophecies in the “scriptures” of any other religion…

For example, the writings of Buddha are totally lacking in any sort of specific predictive prophecy about the things of the future. In the writings of Confucius, there is absolutely nothing of any predictive prophecies. In the case of the Koran, the scriptures of the Muslims, we find only the prophecy of Mohammed that he would return to Mecca, a “self-fulfilling prophecy,” which he himself, of course, fulfilled.

This is quite different from the prophecy of Christ, who said that he would rise from the dead. And that is just one of several thousands of prophecies that occur in the Scriptures and which are of the most specific, concrete, and definite nature.
